About
The International Center of Photography (ICP) is one of New York’s leading institutions dedicated to photography and visual culture. Located at 84 Ludlow Street on the Lower East Side, ICP brings together a museum, photography school, shop and café in one downtown cultural hub. Its programme explores contemporary and historical photography, photojournalism, fashion, documentary practice, photobooks and the wider role of images in society.
Rather than relying on a fixed permanent display, ICP is strongly exhibition-led, with major temporary shows and public programmes that change throughout the year. For art travellers, it is especially valuable as a focused photography destination and as a starting point for a wider Lower East Side art route with the New Museum and nearby galleries.
Worth the trip
Because ICP is not only about looking at photographs. It is one of the best places in New York to understand how photography shapes journalism, fashion, identity, politics, memory and contemporary visual culture.
