Artlovers Tip
Look at the bases as carefully as the sculptures. With Brancusi, the pedestal is not neutral support; it changes how the body, object and space meet.
Inside the exhibition
Brancusi. The Artist and His Studio is on view at MoMA, The Museum of Modern Art, in New York, United States, from 25 October 2026 to 27 February 2027. The exhibition surveys Constantin Brancusi’s sculptural achievement through the environment of his Paris studio at the impasse Ronsin, where he developed a language of radical simplification, polished surfaces, carved forms and carefully staged groups of works.
The show brings together sculpture with photographs, drawings, films and studio-related material to show how Brancusi controlled not only the making of his works, but also their atmosphere and presentation. MoMA places special emphasis on the studio as a space of work, play and invention, where sculptures, bases and pedestals formed changing constellations rather than isolated objects.
Its timing also connects New York with recent European research on Brancusi, following the Centre Pompidou’s 2024 exhibition Brancusi: Art Is Just Beginning, organised by curators from the Musée national d’art moderne. For Artlovers, this is the kind of exhibition that helps explain why modern sculpture became lighter, stranger and more essential.
