ArtLovers Tip

The installation is accessible 24 hours a day, but aim for a night visit to experience the soundscape without the daytime traffic noise.

Exhibition Highlights - What you'll see

JR concludes his years-long exploration of human isolation by turning the Pont Neuf into a geological miracle. Following the legacy of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s famous 1985 wrapping, this ephemeral intervention uses massive inflatable structures and printed fabric to evoke Plato’s allegory of the cave, urging us toward shared clarity. This public installation is open to all with free admission.

You're watching the familiar stone of the bridge dissolve into the rugged, shadowy textures of a prehistoric grotto. As you walk through the interior tunnel, the heavy city air gives way to an immersive soundscape by Thomas Bangalter, while augmented reality layers a digital dreamscape over the physical arches.

Worth the trip

  • A bridge transformed: Experience the sensory shock of Paris’s oldest stone crossing becoming a soft, hollowed-out cavern for just twenty-two days.
  • Sonic atmosphere: Hear an original sound dimension composed by Thomas Bangalter specifically for the bridge's interior, blending the mechanical with the organic.
  • Technological layer: Access high-tech augmented reality through Snap’s Spectacles to see the installation shift between the physical and the digital.

How to experience it

Wander across the bridge at dawn when the light hits the fabric textures, then descend to the riverbank quays to view the silhouette from afar. After leaving the cavern, walk south into the Latin Quarter for a quiet coffee, letting the weight of the city’s history settle back into place after the ephemeral detour.
