A former convent turned into one of Valencia’s most alive cultural spaces. Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània — CCCC is where history, contemporary art, performance and public life meet in the heart of El Carmen.

The Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània is located at Carrer del Museu, 2, in Valencia’s historic centre. It occupies a former Carmelite convent, a layered architectural complex with medieval, Gothic, Renaissance and later elements — a place where the building itself already feels like part of the exhibition.

Today, the CCCC is part of the Consorci de Museus de la Comunitat Valenciana and works as a contemporary cultural centre rather than a traditional museum. Its programme can include visual art, performance, cinema, design, sound, architecture, workshops, family activities and experimental projects.

What you’ll see here

At Centre del Carme, expect temporary exhibitions and cultural programming rather than a fixed permanent collection. The experience is flexible, open and often surprising: you may enter for a quick exhibition and end up walking through cloisters, installations, sound projects, children’s workshops or experimental performances.

You may encounter:

  • Contemporary art exhibitions
  • Photography, design, installation and visual culture
  • Performance, dance, sound, film or public programmes
  • Gothic and Renaissance cloisters
  • A calm architectural pause inside El Carmen
  • Free, accessible cultural programming

Worth the trip

Yes — especially if you want to feel Valencia’s contemporary cultural pulse without leaving the old city.

What makes Centre del Carme special is the contrast: a historic convent hosting living, experimental, sometimes playful contemporary culture. It is less formal than IVAM, more open than a museum, and more embedded in the city’s daily life.

ArtLovers Tip

Visit it while walking through El Carmen. This is not a rigid museum plan; it works beautifully as a spontaneous cultural stop between old streets, cafés, street art, IVAM and the Turia Gardens.

For Artlovers, CCCC is worth including because it shows Valencia as a city that does not separate past and present. Here, medieval stone, public culture and contemporary imagination all share the same courtyard.
