Artlovers Tip
Go with someone from a different generation.
The most entertaining part is comparing reactions: one visitor recognises everything immediately while another sees an entirely unfamiliar world. It turns nostalgia into conversation rather than simply retro decoration.

Description
Yo fui a EGB reconstructs the childhood world of generations who grew up in Spain during the years of Educación General Básica, roughly from the 1970s through the early 1990s. Instead of telling that history through formal timelines, it uses hundreds of familiar objects, television references, music, smells and recreated domestic spaces to trigger personal memories. Visitors encounter school notebooks, toys, toiletries, food brands and characters from children’s television as fragments of a shared cultural language.
The exhibition is deliberately immersive and intergenerational. Adults are invited to recognise pieces of their own childhood, while younger visitors can experience the material world their parents or grandparents grew up with before smartphones, streaming and digital childhood transformed everyday life. Its popularity has been striking: by mid-August it had already received 31,778 visitors.
Yo fui a EGB itself began not as a museum project but as a Facebook page created in 2010, later expanding into a hugely popular blog, books, live shows and exhibitions. Its creators turned nostalgia for everyday Spanish childhood into a cultural phenomenon, and this exhibition translates that digital community into a physical experience.
