Contemporary Art

ArtLovers Tip

Don’t walk through it asking, “Which artwork is the most famous?” Walk through it asking, “Why would someone choose to live with this?” That changes everything. Look for the emotional logic behind each selection: the personal piece versus the recent acquisition. One speaks about memory; the other about where each collector’s eye is moving now. A smart Madrid stop if you want to understand contemporary art beyond museums: not just what is shown, but who takes the risk to collect it.

Exhibition Highlights - What you'll see

Madrid Collects: 50 Contemporary Art Collections” is a warm tribute to the people who act as the heartbeat of our city’s art world. We’re shining a spotlight on collectors as key figures who help our cultural heritage grow, supporting artists’ careers and keeping the art market thriving.

With 100 unique works to explore, this exhibition is a vibrant journey through the world of contemporary art that breaks away from traditional rules. In our galleries, you’ll find paintings, photography, sculpture, and video installations all living side-by-side, showcasing the incredible variety of today’s creative scene and the passion of the collectors who help protect its future.

For this special project, each collector has hand-picked two pieces from their private collection to share with you: one that holds a deep personal meaning and another that they have only recently discovered and acquired.

Worth the trip

Because Madrid is not only a city of great museums. It is also a city of collectors, galleries, artists, foundations, fairs, and private passions that help keep the contemporary art ecosystem alive.

Madrid Collects makes visible something usually hidden: the role of collectors as cultural agents. They do not just buy art; they support artists, preserve works, strengthen careers, and shape what future generations may get to see.

For Artlovers, this is worth visiting because it shows the backstage of the art world: how taste is built, how value is chosen, and how contemporary art enters private life before it enters history.
