Landscapes are never neutral: Jorge Yeregui shows how mining, real estate, water and urban growth quietly rewrite the places we think we know.

Why go

Because this is photography used as research rather than decoration. Los mismos lugares brings together four projects examining how contemporary societies transform territory through extraction, construction, speculation and environmental intervention. It is one of the most conceptually rigorous exhibitions in PHotoESPAÑA 2026, and it expands photography into video, installation and spatial research.

You'll see

Photography · Video · Installation · Mining landscapes · Real-estate development · Urban growth · Water systems · Human intervention in nature

Pace of visit

Medium-high conceptual density.

Artlovers Tip

Don’t ask whether the landscapes are beautiful. Ask who made them look that way. Especially if you are interested in the intersection of photography, architecture, ecology and urbanism.

Description

Los mismos lugares brings together four bodies of work centred on the transformation of territory. Rather than treating landscape as something picturesque, Yeregui approaches it as evidence: every mine, unfinished development, water system or artificial hill reveals political and economic decisions. Photography becomes a method for asking who alters a place, for what purpose and with what long-term consequences.

Jorge Yeregui (b. 1975, Santander) is a Spanish visual artist, photographer, architect and researcher whose practice focuses on the construction of landscape and the social, cultural and political forces that transform it. His background in architecture is crucial: he looks at territory not simply as scenery, but as something planned, regulated, exploited, protected and constantly redesigned.
