Description

The exhibition challenges the tendency to remember Hepworth primarily through white stone and bronze. Painted surfaces, coloured interiors and strings demonstrate how carefully colour was integrated into her sculptural thinking. Instead of decorating form, colour can deepen cavities, sharpen contrasts or make an object feel almost architectural. This focused approach makes a very familiar artist look unexpectedly new.

Barbara Hepworth (1903–1975) was a central figure in British modernism and international abstract sculpture. Her work developed through carving, organic form and a strong relationship between sculpture, body and landscape.
