The Heidi Horten Collection in Vienna is a private museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art, located at Hanuschgasse 3 between the Vienna State Opera and Burggarten. Created to preserve and present the collection assembled by Heidi Goëss-Horten, the museum brings together major works from Vienna around 1900, German Expressionism, Surrealism, postwar abstraction, Pop Art and contemporary art. Artists represented include Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Andy Warhol, Francis Bacon, René Magritte and Yves Klein. The museum itself is also a highlight: a former archducal administrative building was transformed by the next ENTERprise Architects into a light-filled, multi-level exhibition space with floating platforms, a central atrium and glass roof. For art travellers, the Heidi Horten Collection offers a compact, elegant and collector-led alternative to Vienna’s larger museums.
