Description
Fratino’s paintings turn private rituals, bodies and ordinary encounters into compositions informed by centuries of Western art history. Classical painting and modern artists are present as references, but the subjects belong unmistakably to contemporary queer life. The new London works expand his attention from intimate interiors toward the overlap between public and private experience.
Louis Fratino (b. 1993) is a New York-based American painter and sculptor. His work combines expressive colour and close observation with art-historical references, particularly around the representation of the male body and queer intimacy.
