At a glance
A line, two colours, almost nothing else — and yet Carmen Herrera makes geometric abstraction feel remarkably tense and alive.

Description
The exhibition treats Herrera’s late work not as an epilogue but as the culmination of a lifelong investigation into line, colour and proportion. Very small changes in orientation or scale create surprising tension within apparently simple compositions. Paintings sit beside works on paper and sculptural structures, making the connection between two-dimensional geometry and physical space particularly clear.
Carmen Herrera (1915–2022) was a Cuban-American abstract artist whose rigorous geometric work developed independently of Minimalism and hard-edge painting. Recognition arrived extraordinarily late, despite her having pursued this visual language since the mid-20th century.
