Artlovers Tip

KBr is one of Barcelona’s most dependable specialist art spaces. Bring your own headphones. The ticket includes a web-based audioguide accessed by QR code, and free Wi-Fi is available, but headphones are not included.

Avoid the final admission slot: the centre warns that it allows only about twenty minutes before the galleries begin to clear.

About the venue

More info

KBr, is a photography center in Barcelona. This space marks an exciting new chapter for Fundación Mapfre, building on a passion for artistic photography that we’ve been sharing with the public since 2009.

Designed as a vibrant hub for everyone to enjoy, KBr features two gallery spaces, a cozy bookstore, an area for hands-on learning, and a versatile auditorium for events. Whether you’re a local visitor or traveling from abroad, we invite you to explore what has quickly become a landmark destination for photography lovers everywhere.

Worth the trip

KBr fills an important gap in Barcelona: it is a purpose-built exhibition centre devoted entirely to photography. Its programme moves confidently between canonical figures, overlooked archives and photographers at the beginning of their careers.

Photography, contemporary art and design in Poblenou

KBr → Museu Can Framis → Disseny Hub Barcelona

Begin at KBr before walking inland through Vila Olímpica and Poblenou. Continue to Museu Can Framis, housed in a converted factory and devoted to contemporary painting by artists born or based in Catalonia. Finish at Disseny Hub Barcelona, where product, fashion, graphic and decorative design broaden the day from image-making into visual culture.

Allow 4–5 hours, excluding lunch. Visit Can Framis before late afternoon: it closes at 18:00 Tuesday–Saturday and at 14:00 on Sunday.

KBr, the Olympic waterfront and medieval Barcelona

KBr → Port Olímpic → Parc de la Ciutadella → Museu Picasso

After the exhibition, walk around the renewed Port Olímpic and past Frank Gehry’s monumental golden fish before following the waterfront edge towards Parc de la Ciutadella. Continue through El Born to the Museu Picasso.

This is the more varied route: contemporary photography, Olympic Barcelona, landscape and medieval urban fabric, followed by Picasso’s formative relationship with the city. Allow 4–5 hours and reserve the Picasso Museum in advance. From late September it opens Tuesday–Sunday, 10:00–19:00.
