Fundación Botín’s new art centre, which opened in June 2017, aims to be a key player on the international art scene while sharing the cultural and educational value of art with a wide audience. With its striking building and the beautiful gardens that surround it, the centre offers a welcoming and inspiring space for visitors from both near and far.
Centro Botín is located in the Jardines de Pereda, facing the Bay of Santander, in one of the city’s most privileged positions. Designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, in collaboration with Luis Vidal + Arquitectos, the building was conceived not only as an art centre but as an urban connector: it links the city centre, the historic gardens and the waterfront.
The building has two main volumes: the west block is dedicated to art, with two exhibition rooms totalling around 2,500 m², while the east block is used for cultural and educational activities, including an auditorium, classrooms, workspaces and a rooftop terrace with views over Santander and the bay.
