Inside the exhibition

Description

Santander’s industrial heritage meets the sharp precision of the modern lens in this annual selection. By bringing together eighteen finalists from a pool of over a thousand international entries, the Fundación ENAIRE prize offers a measured temperature check of where photography stands today. It is a quiet celebration of technical mastery and the patient observation of the world around us.

You're watching light fall across the expansive, renovated halls of Las Naves de Gamazo, where the salt air from the Bay of Biscay seems to linger between the frames. The scale of the prints encourages a slow pace, moving from intimate portraits to sweeping architectural studies that feel both monumental and fragile.

Worth travelling for?

  • Award-winning vision: See the three winning works alongside fifteen finalists selected from a competitive international field of over twenty countries.
  • Architectural dialogue: Experience photography inside a meticulously restored warehouse that honors Santander's maritime history through light and space.
  • PHotoEspaña circuit: Visit a key northern outpost of Spain's premier photography festival, ensuring a high standard of curation and conceptual depth.

Experience as an Artlover

Begin your visit by walking along the Avenida de Severiano Ballesteros, letting the sea breeze prepare you for the stillness of the gallery. After moving through the finalists' works, take a seat near the large windows of Las Naves to watch the shifting light on the water—a natural counterpart to the captured moments inside. A short walk to the nearby Caseta de Bombas for a coffee allows the visual narratives to settle while watching the ships enter the bay.

Experience art in Santander

Spain

Santander is a northern coastal art escape where contemporary architecture, Cantabrian artists, sea light and prehistoric memory meet around one of Spain’s most beautiful bays.

Artlovers Tip:

Plan Santander as a 24–48 hour cultural escape: Centro Botín, MAS, a gallery stop, a bay walk and, if you have more time, a Cantabrian prehistoric art route beyond the city.

For Artlovers, Santander works best when you understand it as a coastal cultural route rather than a museum marathon. You begin by the bay, move into the city’s modern and contemporary art, discover a gallery or cultural space, and then let the sea, architecture and Cantabrian atmosphere complete the experience.
