Collection Favourites brings together works that have become part of ARoS’s collective memory since the museum’s current building opened in 2004. The selection is less about chronology than about impact: installations, video works, sculptures and images that have repeatedly shaped how visitors experience the museum. Some are visually immediate, others immersive or psychologically demanding, but together they show why large-scale installation art has become central to ARoS’s identity.

The exhibition mixes familiar collection highlights with works rarely placed in dialogue. Alongside Eliasson, Viola, Neshat and Oursler are artists including Tony Matelli, Asger Jorn, Hanne Nielsen & Birgit Johnsen, Michael Kvium, Wes Lang, Banaan Al-Nasser, Rory Macbeth and Erik A. Frandsen. The result is broad in medium and mood, moving from contemplative video to hyperreal sculpture and more confrontational contemporary imagery.

There is no single artist at the centre. Instead, the exhibition works as a portrait of ARoS as a collecting institution — what it chose, what visitors remembered, and which works helped define its visual identity.
