Bill Viola was an American artist widely regarded as one of the leading pioneers of video art. Born in New York City in 1951, he developed a deeply personal visual language using video and sound installations exploring birth, death, consciousness, and spiritual transcendence. His monumental slow-motion works drew on Eastern and Western mystical traditions. He passed away in July 2024.
