Artlovers Tip
Treat the city as the museum and the galleries as the rooms. Start with one strong route, leave space for unexpected stops and prioritise the Flash⚡︎ projects first because they disappear when the weekend ends.
Inside the exhibition
Description
Barcelona Gallery Weekend marks the opening of the city’s contemporary and modern art season with a concentrated programme of exhibitions selected across Barcelona and L’Hospitalet. Unlike an art fair, the works remain inside real gallery spaces, giving each artist more room and allowing visitors to understand the identity of each gallery as well as the exhibition itself.
The 2026 edition combines the main exhibition programme with Flash⚡︎ shows lasting only four days, performances, talks, artist and gallerist-led visits, ARCO GalleryWalks, family activities and a professional programme for collectors, curators and institutions. The event is organised by ArtBarcelona. Galeries and is designed not only to showcase artists but also to strengthen collecting and highlight galleries as cultural spaces open to the public throughout the year.
The participating artists span different generations and approaches, from established figures such as Antonio Saura, Miralda and Francesc Torres to contemporary voices including Mounira Al Solh, Lucía C. Pino, Gema Polanco, Joan Pallé and Mikel Escobales.
Worth travelling for?
Barcelona Gallery Weekend runs 17–20 September 2026, bringing together 25 galleries and more than 50 national and international artists. The main gallery exhibitions open simultaneously on 17 September; some Flash projects exist only for the four-day weekend.
Experience as an Artlover
This is probably the best weekend of the year to understand Barcelona’s gallery scene in one concentrated experience: free access, new season openings, major artists, emerging voices and the chance to move through the city rather than spend the whole day inside one museum.
