About the Artwork

A pioneering Botticelli portrait featuring the first three-quarter pose in Florentine painting. The sitter's hand rests on a window frame — remarkably innovative for 1475 when profile views were standard.

Identity based on an old inscription linking her to Esmeralda Donati Brandini, grandmother of sculptor Baccio Bandinelli. She wears a sheer guarnello over a light cotta — garments that helped identify Mona Lisa's clothing.

Attribution debated by some scholars. At the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
