Henie Onstad Kunstsenter is located at Høvikodden, around 15 minutes west of Oslo, in a park and recreation area by the Oslofjord. It is one of Norway’s leading venues for modern and contemporary art, with exhibitions, performances, concerts, archives, artists’ books and a strong relationship between art, architecture and landscape.
The centre was founded by Olympic figure-skating champion Sonja Henie and shipowner/art collector Niels Onstad, and opened in 1968. From the beginning, it was conceived not only as a museum, but as a place for experimental art forms: visual art, music, performance, dance and new cultural encounters.
