About
Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence is one of Europe's most important destinations for modern and contemporary art, combining a major collection with exceptional architecture, sculpture gardens and Mediterranean landscape. Created by Aimé and Marguerite Maeght and opened in 1964, the foundation was designed by Josep Lluís Sert in collaboration with artists including Joan Miró, Alberto Giacometti, Alexander Calder and Marc Chagall.
Its galleries, courtyards and gardens contain paintings, sculpture, mosaics and architectural interventions that were conceived to exist in dialogue with their surroundings. Highlights include the Giacometti Courtyard, Miró Labyrinth and the foundation's distinctive modernist architecture. For art travellers, Fondation Maeght is much more than a museum visit: it is a destination where art, architecture and landscape form a single experience.
Worth the trip
Because the Fondation Maeght is not simply a place where art is displayed. The architecture, gardens, sculptures and landscape were conceived together, creating one of Europe's great total art experiences.
