Contemporary photography enters an aristocratic historic house to question women, labour and the roles institutions expect us to perform.

Why go

You'll see

Photography · Gender · Labour · Institutional roles · Historic interiors · PhotoEspaña

Pace of visit

Medium density; allow extra time because the museum interiors are part of the experience.

Don't miss

Notice how the contemporary images change when surrounded by 19th-century domestic display.

Artlovers Tip

The museum is not just the venue — it is part of the argument.

Inside the exhibition

Description

Disfuncionarias plays with ideas of function, institutional behaviour and the roles assigned to women. Installed within Cerralbo’s richly preserved interiors, contemporary photography confronts a historical architecture built around hierarchy, representation and social status.

Tanit Plana (b. 1975) is a Catalan photographer and educator whose projects frequently investigate identity, social structures and collective behaviour.
