Welcome to Voorlinden for the first major museum-wide celebration of Claire Tabouret’s work. In her solo exhibition, Weaving Waters, Weaving Gestures, the French artist (born 1981) shows us just how far she can push the boundaries of painting, diving deep into the heart of identity and how we connect with one another. It is a big year for Claire; her new stained-glass windows for the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris will also be unveiled later this year.

From canvas and faux fur to bronze and ceramics, Claire experiments with almost every material imaginable. While she is a figurative painter at heart, she loves to play with traditional styles to explore how we see ourselves—both as individuals and as part of a group.

Her portraits often act like a mirror, asking you: do you see strength or vulnerability in these faces? With a palette that shifts from neon-bright colors to soft, see-through layers, her work feels both romantic and mysterious. Every piece tells a story, woven together from her own memories, old archives, and images found on the internet.
