Infinity Mirrored Room — stepping inside infinity

Yayoi Kusama's 'Infinity Mirror Room' series, begun in 1965, are immersive installations that utilize infinity mirrors to generate a captivating illusion of endless space. Her first such work, 'Infinity Mirror Room - Phalli's Field,' launched this iconic exploration. Over two dozen unique variations have since been created, each offering a different perspective on the infinite. These rooms, now a viral sensation thanks to social media, delve into themes of infinity, self-obliteration, and the cosmic endlessness of existence. The Yayoi Kusama Museum in Tokyo proudly houses a permanent Infinity Mirror Room.

Kusama began creating these environments in the 1960s, inspired by her own hallucinations. As a child, she experienced patterns repeating infinitely (dots, nets, lights), and instead of escaping them, she transformed them into art.
